Molecular Identification of Candida Species among Iranian Patients: Pursuing Candida auris

Researchers in Iran studied 136 hospital patients to identify different types of Candida fungal infections using a molecular laboratory technique called PCR-RFLP. They found that while Candida albicans remained the most common species, other Candida species were increasingly prevalent in hospitalized patients. The study developed a cost-effective diagnostic method that could help developing countries identify these fungal infections faster and more accurately, though the dangerous multidrug-resistant Candida auris was not found in their samples.

Wildlife Dermatophytoses in Central Italy (Umbria and Marche Regions): A Fifteen-Year Investigation (2010–2024)

Researchers in central Italy studied fungal skin infections in wild animals over 15 years to understand disease patterns and public health risks. They found that about 11% of wild animals tested positive for dermatophytes (skin fungi), with some species dangerous to humans. The most common fungi found were Paraphyton mirabile and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, which can spread to people through contact with infected animals. Evaluation of the DendrisKIT®DP for the Diagnosis of Superficial Fungal Infections

Researchers evaluated a new rapid test called DendrisKIT®DP that can identify skin, nail, and hair fungal infections much faster than traditional methods. The test uses PCR technology combined with artificial intelligence to detect 13 different fungal species directly from patient samples in less than 48 hours, compared to traditional cultures that take up to 4 weeks. The test showed good accuracy with 84% sensitivity and 89% specificity, and when combined with traditional methods, provides a better overall diagnostic strategy for fungal infections.
