Summary
Researchers tested a special antiaging face serum containing multiple skin-boosting ingredients on 50 women over 24 weeks. The serum significantly improved skin hydration, firmness, texture, and reduced wrinkles and fine lines. Results showed improvements as early as one week, with continued benefits throughout the study, and the product was very well tolerated with no irritation or side effects.
Background
Facial aging is a multifactorial phenomenon resulting from poor skin hydration, deficient intercellular communication, collagen/elastin breakdown, and oxidative stress. Optimal antiaging formulations should address multiple aging mechanisms through carefully combined ingredients and vehicles.
Objective
To assess the efficacy of a multimechanistic antiaging prototype formulation on the appearance of photoaged facial skin after 24 weeks of twice daily use in subjects with mild to moderate photoaging concerns.
Results
Forty-seven subjects completed the study with 35% increase in skin hydration and 19% increase in skin firmness. Investigator assessments showed improvements at 24 weeks: 40% in fine lines, 64% in radiance, 65% in texture, 60% in firmness, and 45% in overall appearance.
Conclusion
The multimechanistic serum combining polymers, humectants, peptides, and antioxidants demonstrated excellent tolerability with visual and mechanistic skin improvement beginning at week 1 and continuing through week 24 in hydration, firmness, texture, radiance, and appearance.
